On March 10-11, 2025, the partners of the LIFE BE-WOODEN project gathered at ART-ER headquarters in Bologna to review progress and plan the next steps for implementation.

The first day focused on the financial state of the project, including a cost overview, discussions on financial management, and one-on-one meetings with partners to review documentation and reporting.

We are excited to report on the successful completion of the LIFE BE-WoodEN Innovation Lab held on March 6th and 7th, 2025, in Imperia. This dynamic event brought together 20 professionals and 18 innovators.


Day 1 Highlights (March 6th, Museo del Mare)


 

On February 18, 2025, the Innovation Lab was proudly launched at the University of Primorska, an event made possible through the collaboration of the University of Primorska, University of Florence, University of Genoa, ART-ER and FederlegnoArredo. The first day of the event featured an enriching program focused on the use of wood in construction. Key topics included the design of timber buildings, moisture control, wooden facades, and the growing role of engineered wood products in modern construction.
 


The Innovation Lab in Genoa, titled Innovating Housing with a NEB Approach, has just concluded successfully. The event, held on Wednesday, February 12th, 2025, brought together experts and professionals to discuss innovative approaches to housing sustainability, inclusivity, and beauty.


We are thrilled to announce the successful conclusion of the first Winter School of the Life Be-Wooden project, held from January 28 to January 30 at the University of Florence (UNIFI). This in-person event brought together participants from diverse backgrounds to explore the fascinating world of wood science and timber technology through an engaging combination of lectures, laboratories, and experiences.


This eight-episode series delves into the unique properties and advantages of wood.


The third edition of the NEBletter from the LIFE BE-WoodEN project explores key themes such as sustainability, participatory innovation, and timber construction. With insights from Laura Muraglia, Alessandro Bosso, and Andreja Kutnar, this issue showcases impactful projects and activities driving a greener and more inclusive future.


On Friday, November 8, the BE-WoodEN project was presented at Ecomondo in Rimini as part of the call for papers. Ecomondo, the premier annual event in the green and circular economy sectors, serves as a key gathering for industries, stakeholders, policymakers, opinion leaders, research organizations, and institutions, promoting the development of essential strategies for the European Union’s environmental policies.


Liguria Region, in collaboration with University of Genoa, organises an innovative workshop on New European Bauhaus (NEB) approach for the renovation of a social housing building and its open areas in Imperia– a coastal city of Liguria region - owned by Azienda Territoriale Regionale per l'Edilizia (ARTE) Imperia, allocated to elder and fragile people.


On Friday, November 8, the BE-WoodEN project will be presented at Ecomondo in Rimini as part of the call for papers. Ecomondo, the leading annual event in the green and circular economy sectors, serves as a meeting point for industries, stakeholders, policymakers, opinion leaders, research bodies, and institutions, facilitating the development of key strategies for the European Union’s environmental policies. Attendance will require an Ecomondo entrance ticket!


Winter School Florence 2025 *

Winter School, hosted by the University of Florence, offers three days for going in-depth about characteristics of wood and its actual behaviour in timber construction, through hands-on activities. It will include laboratory experiences covering the following:


 


 


The first batch of 8 webinars has been published and is currently available only in Italian, but they will soon be available in English. These webinars, each lasting about 2 hour, are conducted by European experts in wooden construction and are aimed at architects, engineers, designers, students, freelancers, and anyone interested in learning more about quality wooden construction.


Today sees the start of Let BE-WoodEN, the NEBletter of the LIFE BE-WoodEN project Buildings and Education in Wood Ecosystem for the New European Bauhaus, which will accompany us between 2024 and 2025 to report on the project's results and activities.  

We begin with an introduction to the project from the voice of its coordinator, Prof. Giovanna Franco of the Department of Architecture and Design of the University of Genoa.  


On Thursday 18 April, the event "Developing new skills in Liguria for the implementation of the New European Bauhaus" was held at Palazzo Ducale in Genova. It focused on the theme of capacity building and the new skills needed to operate in a NEB perspective.

The meeting, which was part of the European NEB Festival, besides continuing the reasoning around the consolidation of a NEB community in Liguria, was also an opportunity to provide updates on the latest developments, initiatives, and projects that the Brussels Office of the Liguria Region is carrying out on the subject.


Two days of work and sharing to effectively start the two-year project, with important cultural, social, business spin-offs.

The Kick-Off Meeting of the Be-WoodEN project was held in Genoa on February 27-28. Two days of intense and fruitful work, where the complementarity of the Partners allowed for an open and in-depth discussion on the ambitious goals of the project.
