Be-WoodEN aims to integrate and apply knowledge, competences, and skills on timber construction in real contexts, in two different Italian areas: Emilia-Romagna and Liguria regions.
The goal is to validate the hypothesis that the New European Bauhaus (NEB) approach can establish a sustainable local wood supply chain for the construction industry while promoting inclusiveness, comfort, and affordability. Both the Pilot actions aim at identifying and eliminating barriers to achieving these outcomes.
The two pilot actions consists in:
- a feasibility study and the implementation of a wooden component designed using the NEB method;
- the re-design and renovation of a Social Housing building located in Imperia (Liguria region) for elderly or fragile people.
Both actions are specific to a particular location, considering its unique needs, resources, stakeholders, ecosystems, forest types, and housing requirements. Key features of the pilot actions include multidisciplinarity, multistakeholder engagement, multilevel governance, involvement of local actors, and an assessment of environmental and economic sustainability, as well as the adoption of the NEB approach.
